How to book a flat in la Maison des Chercheurs Etrangers?
Accomodation at the "Maison des Chercheurs Etrangers" is primarily for overseas researchers who have been accepted by laboratories and research centres, members of the Association, in the Nantes area. The flats are rented for short stays only (up to 6 months maximum) so that the foreign researchers can take his/her time to look for a permanent accommodation and to ensure that he or she settles in well at a local level.
If you wish to book this type of accommodation, you cannot do so directly. Bookings for accommodation are made through laboratory director. The request can be addressed via mail or post and must include:
- a formal letter to the Président of the Association
- a booking form, filled-in with all the details needed - download form here
- a document which certifies that the stay will be financed.
This request must arrive three months before the arrival of the researcher so that the Accommodations Commission can study all the dossiers carefully. Only fully completed files will be dealt with. The Research laboratory will have to confirm the requested reservation at least one week before the new lodger arrives.

Studio equiped and furnished (18-23m2)
- 1 to 7 days: 166.50€ tax free
- 8 to 14 days: 275.70€ tax free
- monthly rent: 551.40€ tax free

- 1 to 7 days: 239.30€ tax free
- 8 to 14 days: 364.30€ tax free
- monthly rent: 728.20€ tax free

Water and electricity bills are included in the price, so are the internet connexion and TV.
Not included in the price: residency tax : 0.60€ per person per night

Arrival at and departure from la MCE PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Arrival is possible monday to friday from 9AM until 12AM and from 1.30PM to 3.30PM, when the manager is present, so that all administratives paperwork can be sorted out: keys, inventory, renting lease to be signed, and the deposit to be given: 300€.
KEYS WILL ONLY BE GIVEN AGAINST THE 300€ DEPOSIT.
In case the researcher is late or arrives outside working hours, someone from the lab or institute can come to get the keys, during working hours, on condition the inventory and deposit formalities are completed.
The "Maison des Chercheurs Etrangers" was built by the town of Nantes and is managed by "Dom’Ville’Services". The «Chercheurs Etrangers à Nantes» association is responsible for all the activities which go on there.
The Maison des Chercheurs Etrangers is made up of activity and conference rooms and 24 flats which make up a total surface area of 1210,50m². It is located right in the heart of the town, a few steps away from the (Line 2) Tram stop called "Hôtel Dieu", which takes visitors swiftly to the town centre and to the university campuses. The "Maison des Chercheurs Etrangers" in Nantes is there to provide important research visitors with the best possible conditions in terms of welcome and integration. We ensure these conditions by providing individually furnished flats, administrative information and social and communication gathering facilities.
